Fine European Craftsmanship : About Us

Fine European Craftsmanship is a small shop specializing in the production of fine custom furniture. In the photo gallery you will find pictures of custom-made book shelves, multimedia cabinets, beds, side tables, office desks, custom home office furniture, lamp tables, vanities, custom hutches, window seats and storage cabinets including secret storage cabinets.
Our goal is to become a family heirloom furniture provider for generations to come. We believe that a piece of furniture does not become an heirloom simply because you paid an exorbitant price for it but because it has a story behind it, the story of your idea, plan or a dream that we help you realize.
Our 2500 square foot shop is situated on the east side of downtown Dallas. There is just enough room and tools to work on one project at a time. We concentrate our effort fully on your idea. We will listen to you, offer ideas, draw sketches, make finish samples, and create 3D drawings untill you are satisfied. We use the best material we can find and we guarantee our work.
Fine European Craftsmanship was established in 2002 in The United States. Anchored in the principals of modern architecture and industrial design, we bring high quality standards and creative simplicity to the production of unique furniture and objects for every day use in the home or office. We design, fabricate and finish furniture generally found in today’s homes and offices: bookcases, beds, multi-media centers, chests, tables, benches, vanities and mirrors, file cabinets and desks, mantels and window seats...
Design, which drives the most important part of the total production process, is the sublimation of client needs and environmental circumstances filtered through the individuality of a craftsman in concert with its commissioner.
“Form Follows Function” (basic credo of modern architecture [MA], and industrial design [ID]) was expressed by American architect Louis Sullivan in 1896. The phrase traveled to Europe and was adopted as a way of thinking by architectural and industrial design revolutionaries. Under the influence of English designer William Morris, and German architect Walter Gropius, the idea of harmony among material, form, function, and design resulted in forming "Bauhaus", The "Building School". Absence of ornaments, respect of the materials, function and production process marked teachings at the Bauhaus where Gropius, Meyer, Klee, Kandinsky, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and many others taught students to see with “New Objectivity” in the creation of prototypes used for mass productions of objects made even today. Several of the founders and teachers found their way to States were they continued in their efforts.
Architecture, furniture, and common every day objects we live with today, have been profoundly affected by Bauhaus and this objectivity continues to determine the relationship between function and form. We grew into it, we were educated by the culture around it and we are comfortable with the process where function restricts the choice of material, which determines the structure of the form and play within these parameters, allowing for creativity and innovation. We shy away from purely decorative elements yet are unafraid to expose connectors, gaps and surfaces to create balance and beauty in the objects. We create original products that stand on their own but exist in harmony with their surroundings. Every project is unique and every product is a prototype. We are inspired by the problem and revel in its solution.
